Hello everyone,
My name is Laura; I am 24 years old and THANK YOU for visiting my Campaign Page! :)
I am fundraising on behalf of Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland and I would be very grateful for your support in helping me meet my personal target!
As we are all aware, suicide is becoming a bigger problem in Ireland and especially among young people. We need to come together and change this.
Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland is currently working with secondary schools and colleges in Ireland to educate young people on the concept on suicide and more importantly how we can prevent it happening.
Unfortunately I am one of many people who have been affected by suicide and for anyone that has, there is always that question in the back of your head of ‘could I have done something to prevent this?’ I believe the key to solving this problem is education and educating young people about to cope if they are just not feeling ok. We all have bad days but it’s when these bad days become more frequent then problems arise and often enough young people do not know where to turn. By educating those on where they can go, who they can talk to and most importantly to not be afraid to say I am not ok can make all the difference.
The work of Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland includes visits to secondary schools around Ireland, giving workshops and in general informing young people of what services are available. The main problem we have in Ireland is we still have a stigma attached to mental health and are afraid to say the word “depression”. Many young people avoid this word at all cost; they don’t talk to someone if they aren’t feeling ok; they try their best to forget about it until they simply cannot forget anymore. It is ok to feel down at times, it is ok to feel overwhelmed when you have deadlines due and exam coming up, it is ok if some days it is just too much and you need to cry. IT IS OK NOT TO BE OK and we need to spread this message and provide help for those around us. From something as simple as a chat over a cup of tea or a walk in the park, there are so many ways in which you can help someone who isn’t feeling ok and many ways, in which other people can help you, all you have to do is ask.
I will be doing a Skydive in aid of Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland in order to raise funds so that they can fund more visits and workshops to secondary schools and educate young people in Ireland. To allow them to fund their free texting service and allow a place where young people can turn if they need to.
All the information about the charity can be found at their website: https://yspi.ie/
Their text service is free and can be contacted on: Texting HELP to 50015 anytime 24/7/365 will provide emergency helpline information and advice. This service is free to use so you can get emergency information even if you have no credit.
I am aware that money for many people can be a problem at times but if you can at all I would REALLY appreciate your support!
You can sponser me by clicking the link below or simple by text . (My personal Text2Donate message is TEXT YSPI SAS3005 to 50300 to make a €4.00 donation to your skydive campaign.)
