Thank you for visiting my Campaign Page. I am fundraising on behalf of Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland and I would be very grateful for your support in helping me meet my personal target.

Let me share a personal story with you. 

I was intentionally overdosed on sleeping pills when I was about 21. I was in Vietnam at the time. In the hospital, I noticed how others looked at me, including nurses and doctors, and there’s one word to describe it - judgement. I got where that came from, "Other people in here are fighting for lives while you're throwing it away". No one cared to understand why I did what I did. They only asked how I could be that stupid, rhetorically. Mental health awareness was scarce in my country at the time. 

Looking back, I realise that self-judgement and fear of being judged were part of the reason that led me to suicidal thoughts. I got myself in troubles, a not-very-proud-of kind of troubles. I was mentally exhausted, desperate, and ashamed. I couldn’t confide in anyone about what I was going through. I just simply thought, “I want to sleep and not wake up so I don’t have to face this anymore”.

I’m grateful to still be alive today, and most importantly, to be able to look back with self-compassion and share my story without the fear of being judged.

Doing a skydive has always been something I want to do. To me it’s about embarking on an adventure, facing my fear, and feeling alive. When I saw the Skydive for Life campaign from Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland, I thought, why not make my dream come true while doing something good for others?

I hope more and more people receive the help and support they need when they are too young to understand or know how to cope in times of crisis, so that someday, when they grow older, they can look back and feel alive as I do.
